Things in life for Caesar were sometimes anything but easy.

He was told that if he helped another find their way, Rex's memories would find their way as well. A good deed rewarded with a good deed. It seemed a fair trade, and even one he could feel good about. He hadn't had a lot to feel good about lately. Rex was growing more distant--not that they had been close anymore, what with Rex having amnesia. It was surprisingly painful to realize someone didn't love you anymore simply because they had forgotten you completely. Especially when that someone was the only family you had left.

Caesar waited to be assigned his Inmate, wondering what he or she--or even it--would be like. How difficult would it be to help them? Caesar's knowledge was of physics and machines, not people. It would be a challenge, but a challenge with two worthy and important outcomes if successfully faced. All Caesar wanted was his brother back. Their parents were dead and gone, but Rex... Rex was still there, still in there, somewhere. His baby brother. The one that drove him crazy, that would drag him away from work to play one thing or another, the surprise that had made their supposedly complete family actually complete... He wanted what was left of their family to be as complete as possible. No, he needed it.

A new inmate came in a short while later, and immediately the Wardens grape vine exploded with growth. There were rumors that the new inmate was younger than the others, but just in need of help. A child criminal. One that upended half of his room searching for a way out. Then there was that incident in the library where he attacked another inmate, screaming "ALIEN! ALIEN!"

Then there was a similar incident in the galley. Another incident in the gymnasium. The incident in the art therapy room left everyone needing additional therapy. They still weren't sure how the incident in the cell block had even happened.

Oh, Caesar thought, that one sounded more difficult than most. He felt sorry for the Warden who got him.

It turns out, he was feeling sorry for himself.

He stared at the file for a while, afraid to open it. When he did, he was surprised by what he read. Yes, the child was a homicidal maniac, but he wasn't evil. He had everything a boy could need but parents that were there. He was obsessed with the aliens and the paranormal (which did explain a few things, actually) and protecting the world against them. He was just going about it the wrong way.

Oh, was he EVER going about it the wrong way. (Even if John had approved of the one incident with Scorpius.) The problem wasn't that the child was evil. No, it was his behavior and not his mind that made him that way.

Caesar was glad he was human. It wouldn't be a good start to be attacked. And from what he read, he was especially glad he wasn't a small green alien trying to take over the world. It was rather surprising that the child had survived even half of what was written in his files.

So finally Caesar found himself standing outside the boy's current cell, looking in at him with apprehension. This... Was likely going to hurt.

"Are you Dib?"

For being such a small boy of his age, he certainly had a large head.

It was a normal day for Caesar. He had woken up, eaten, taken a shower, and then grown an umbilical cord and attached himself to his lab. At the moment, he was bent over his desk with a soldering iron and a half-completed circuit board. He wasn't starting it from scratch, instead modifying it to suit his own purposes. Well, actually, he had already modified it once, but that robot hadn't turned out so well. Caesar had narrowed it down to an electrical problem in the control board. It was normally a very reliable board from what he remembered--had the quality suffered during the last five years? At least he was almost done fixing it and would be able to test if it resolved the problem soon.
