Generator Rex/Caedashi Season 3 Drabbles

PUT OTHERS HERE

Post Season 3, Caesar and Rylander (Another former Nanite Project Scientist)
Rylander (nanite project scientist that gave Rex his name): So.. is he the one?
Caesar: I don't believe in soulmates; it's a wholly unscientific concept. However, I *do* believe some individuals are so highly compatible that there's no discernable difference.
Rylander: [chuckling] So, in other words, yes.
Caesar: [a gentle, love-struck smile] ... in other words, he may as well be. We complete each other and make each other better people. Just like my parents said about each other.
Rylander: They'll rest easy, knowing you've found someone sensible that compliments you so perfectly.
Caesar: I honestly never thought I would. And then I met him.
Rylander: So will we be hearing wedding bells soon?
Caesar: [Laughs!] Not for a while. We're taking our time to enjoy falling deeper and deeper in love as things progress naturally. We're taking the scenic route instead of the highway.
Rylander: Good. See that you do. You'll only get to go through this once.
Caesar: It's strange... I think I will want children with him someday.
Rylander: [Starts laughing] Oh, you have it bad!
Caesar: [Warm smile] I do. Tadashi wants them too, I believe, but he'll want to be older and wait until after marriage, which is how I want it, too. We'd probably adopt at least a pair of siblings; they're much harder to place and we both know how precious those bonds are.
Rylander: [Manages to contain himself, but he's grinning wide.] "At least", eh?
Caesar: [Smile gets a bit embarrassed] I don't want to put an upper limit on keeping a family together.
Rylander: [Shakes his head with amusement.] Caesar Salazar, the future family man. Never thought I'd see the day.
Caesar: [Shrugs innocently.] I guess I'm full of surprises.
Rylander: I'll be claiming grandfather privileges, if you don't mind.
Caesar: [Confused] Grandfather privileges? But you already- [Stops dead and turns to Rylander fully, looking contrite and apologetic] Your wife and son... [Seeing Rylander's smile turn sad, Caesar adds quickly.] I'm sorry, I didn't-
Rylander: It's all right. [Smiling gently and sadly]
Caesar: But I didn't even ask. [Frowning at himself]
Rylander: Because your head is in the clouds, right where it should be.
Caesar: ... ... ... Sometimes I wish it wasn't. Here I am, prattling on about children, when... [Caesar trails off as-]
Rylander: [he shakes his head, smile soft and sad] It's been five years for me, Caesar. I've had time to mourn. It's still like yesterday to you, isn't it?
Caesar: ... ... ... [Looks down and away.] It still doesn't feel real....
Rylander: You've been busy.
Caesar: Do we need to talk about this right now?
Rylander: If not now, when? We both know you're avoiding it.
Caesar: [Slowly puts down the tool he was using] ... I don't know.
